The family is pretty much never not filming.
They film for 10 to 12 hours each day, "more if a plotline warrants it." Jenner's house is wired with cameras in addition to having one or two camera people around for Keeping Up With The Kardashians and its various spin-offs.

They didn't come up with the show's title until right before it premiered.
