The American director thanked his followers for their support before deactivating his account.

Film director Joss Whedon has deleted his Twitter account after some viewers expressed frustrations with his new film, Avengers: Age of Ultron.

The 50-year-old gave no official reason for deactivating his account, but reportedly wrote in a final message: “Thank you to all the people who’ve been so kind and funny and inspiring up in here.”

Whedon has faced some criticism over the film, including the depiction of Aaron Taylor-Johnson's character, Quicksilver, and the portrayal of Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, The Guardian reported.

And last month he found himself making headlines after openly criticising this clip of the upcoming Jurassic World.

Responding to a tweet by the blog The Mary Sue praising the film's star Chris Pratt, Whedon said: "and I’m too busy wishing this clip wasn’t 70’s era sexist. She’s a stiff, he’s a life-force - really? Still?”

He later apologised, telling Variety: “I shouldn’t have tweeted it. I don’t ever say things about other people’s work that are negative. That’s bad form. It’s not what a gentleman would do.”
