The zany, post-apocalyptic 2K Games franchise is being adapted into a movie, hot off the heels of Mad Max: Fury Road.
If you're a fan of Borderlands, here's some exciting news for you: Lionsgate is making it into a movie!
The popular video game franchise is getting the Hollywood movie adaptation treatment, thanks to the studio that brought you The Hunger Games. Avi and Ari Arad, who helped produce a number of Marvel films including The Amazing Spider-Man and Iron Man, are set to produce.

The decision may have had something to do with the success of Mad Max: Fury Road.
The video game series is set in a similar post-apocalyptic wasteland and borrows some of its aesthetic from the classic movie franchise. Strong female characters are also likely if the movie uses the same characters as the games.

However, unlike Mad Max, Borderlands is known for its irreverent humor, and it sounds like the movie will keep that spirit alive.
"The Borderlands games don’t pull any punches, and we’ll make the movie with the same in-your-face attitude that has made the series a blockbuster mega-franchise," Lionsgate co-chairs Rob Friedman and Patrick Wachsberger said in a press release.

The project is in very early stages, so there are no plot or character details yet, nor any indication as to whether the movie will closely follow the games.
We can only hope that Handsome Jack, aka the greatest villain ever, will make an appearance even though he didn't show up until the second game in the series.
