Roses really smell like purple haze.

André Benjamin, Outkast's André 3000, stars as Jimi Hendrix in the new biopic, which was unable to feature Hendrix's actual music for the score. The Hendrix estate has previously released a statement from the CEO Janie Hendrix, Jimi's sister, explaining that no film currently has the permission to use his music in a production.

"Jimi" has received favorable criticism and was written and directed by John Ridley, who won an Academy Award for 12 Years a Slave. The new film depicts the Hendrix's early years and the dynamic of his relationship with Linda Keith, (Imogen Poots) and won't hit theaters until Sept. 26.
