Robin Williams died on Aug. 11, 2014. In the wake of the 63-year-old actor's death, hundreds of tributes to his work, legacy, and comedy poured out onto the internet, from family, friends, colleagues, corporations, and admirers, leading the late actor's name to become Google's most searched term of 2014 worldwide.


Williams, who had been previously diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, died as a result of asphyxia. "It is our hope in the wake of Robin's tragic passing, that others will find the strength to seek the care and support they need to treat whatever battles they are facing so they may feel less afraid," his wife, Susan Schneider, said in a statement after his passing.


Following Williams' name on Google's Top 10 most searched terms list for 2014 are World Cup, Ebola, Malaysia Airlines, ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, Flappy Bird, Conchita Wurst, ISIS, Frozen, and Sochi Olympics.
