Much has been made of the stunning lack of diversity among this year's crop of Oscar nominees.

But the problem is well rooted in Oscar history, as this video from Norwegian animator Bård Edlund shows.
"It kind of surprised me a little," Edlund told BuzzFeed News of the lack of racial diversity among this year's nominees.
"Obviously, I am well aware of the overall diversity problem in Hollywood, both when it comes to race and gender, but I personally felt like black actors had been making good inroads at awards ceremonies in recent years."
"I wanted to check to see how true that was in terms of raw numbers, and also take a look at nominations for Hispanic and Asian people," he said.
Edlund's video only includes those who actually won the awards, not the total number of people nominated.
After 86 years of the Academy Awards, here are all the black people Edlund found who have won awards for Best Actor or Actress.
