Other winners include American Bennett Miller for best director for his wresting drama Foxcatcher , Julianne Moore for best actress in David Cronenberg’s Maps to the Stars , and Timothy Spall for best actor as British painter J.M.W. Turner in Mike Leigh’s biopic Mr. Turner .
Turkish film Winter Sleep won the top prize at the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday, earning the prestigious Palme d'Or. It is only the second Turkish film to take home the top honor.

The family drama set in an isolated, snowbound hotel was directed by Nuri Bilge Ceylan. Ceylan has twice won the second highest prize at Cannes, the Grand Prix, but this is his first Palme d'Or.

This year's jury was headed by director Jane Campion, and the award was presented to Ceylan by Quentin Tarantino and Uma Thurman.

During his acceptance speech, Ceylan addressed the political unrest and mining disaster in his home country: "I want to dedicate the prize to the young people in Turkey and those who lost their lives during the last year."
