TLC Has Canceled "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" Amid Sex Offender Scandal

The network ended the show after reports emerged that the mother of Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson is dating a convicted sex offender.

After four seasons, TLC has canceled Honey Boo Boo. The reality show was a spin-off of Toddlers & Tiaras and followed break-out beauty pageant star Alana "Honey Boo Boo" Thompson and her family in their hometown McIntyre, Georgia.


Thompson's mother, June Shannon, came under scrutiny on Oct. 23 when TMZ reported she was dating a man who was convicted and served time for aggravated child molestation of one of Shannon's relatives.


After that story broke, TLC released the following statement: "TLC is not currently in production on Here Comes Honey Boo Boo. We are very concerned about this new information and are reassessing the future of the series."


Though Shannon denied the relationship, the network released a statement. saying the show had been permanently canceled. "TLC has cancelled the series Here Comes Honey Boo Boo and ended all activities around the series, effective immediately. Supporting the health and welfare of these remarkable children is our only priority. TLC is faithfully committed to the children's ongoing comfort and well-being."


Honey Boo Boo aired its Season 4 finale in August 2014, which brought in 1.81 million viewers. A fifth season had not been announced.
