At the opening panel of the Star Wars Celebration convention in Anaheim, California, director J.J. Abrams and his cast provided a few tantalizing new revelations about the seventh Star Wars movie.
That desert planet is not Tatooine — it's a brand-new planet called Jakku.
Abrams declined to say much more about Jakku for now, but he did explain why he wanted to shoot in the 120-degree heat of the deserts in Abu Dhabi for his new planet. "Star Wars is as much a western and fairy tale as it is anything," he said. "What you expect and want to see are real, tangible, John Ford beautiful landscapes. And shooting in Abu Dhabi provided just that."

Yes, Finn (John Boyega) really is a Stormtrooper — but he may not be a very good one.
"When we find Finn, he's in incredible danger," said Boyega. "And the way he decides to react to this danger changes his life, number one, and launches him into the Star Wars universe in a very unique way." When asked if he was really a Stormtrooper, as he's appeared in both Star Wars teaser trailers so far, Boyega nervously nodded yes before Abrams jokingly jabbed his shoulder.

The lead female character Rey (Daisy Ridley) can handle herself.
"On the desert planet Jakku, she is a scavenger, in a ship graveyard," Ridley said. "She is completely self-sufficient. She does everything herself. She's very solitary, until she meets another character, and her adventure begins."

Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) is going to give Han Solo (Harrison Ford) a run for his money.
"He's the best frickin' pilot in the galaxy," said Isaac. "He's been sent on a mission by a certain princess, and he ends up coming across John Boyega's character, and their fates are forever intertwined."
